How Do I Optimize My Website for Search Engines?

After you have done one of the most exciting jobs of setting up your website, the most important element that follows is gaining virtual visitors. You must understand how to optimize your website to acquire sales and be able to draw in visitors who can bring about the so-called commercial value you need.

How do you get traffic on your website?

To successfully get traffic to your website, there are two main methods you can use. The organic and paid method. If you decide to go with the organic method, you will need to use search engine optimizations, set up your blog, use different social media marketing tools, etc., which are free. On the other hand, If you go with the paid method, you will need to create paid ads to drive traffic to your website.

On-Page, Content & Technical SEO

Every website is constructed differently whether build on WordPress, Shopify, Magento, Webflow and more. Often when a website is built, very little attention is paid to the SEO side of things unless specified during the planning phase. We cannot stress enough the importance of ensuring that your on-page SEO is good prior to site launch and if your site is already live, fixing any on-page SEO issues that exist.

On-page refers to quite simply, elements on the front-end of a website that affect SEO, loading times and user experience. This could include images that are too big, text that appears off-screen, videos that take 20 seconds to load and much more.

Technical SEO refers more to to what goes on in the background, that often the users cannot see. This may include eliminating error codes, fixing re-directs for no-longer live web pages, ensuring your titles, sub titles and text have the correct ‘tag’ in the code to better guide search engines and much more. It is often technical SEO that lets a lot of sites down and also has great weighting when it comes to search engines evaluating your website.

Content SEO refers to the actual content you have written on the page. This includes ensuring your content includes all relevant keywords, titles are optimised, the content is well written but not overly complicated, ensuring it’s structured effectively and logically and more. For effective content SEO, you must have a keyword strategy in place – this means researching what keywords are good to target for you business (finding high volume, lower competition is always a good start) and working those keywords into your content.

All these facets of SEO are extremely important and all play a huge role as to whether the likes of Google deem your website as viable to place at the top of their search engine. At the end of the day, all Google wants to provide as much value and a good experience to its users as possible, and this is where many of these ‘action points’ come from – improving all of this.

Instagram is now a wildly-populated platform to share content using pictures and videos. A few individuals know and understand how to leverage it and drive traffic to their websites. All you need is to create content that you can link to your website for more information, and there you go, tada!

6. Use LinkedIn

The digital connectivity makes it easy for any professional to market their content, even on LinkedIn. What you need is to publish unique and high-quality posts on this website. The posts’ content must be unique and of high quality to deliver good value so that you can link the content to anchor on your blog.

7. Post on Websites Like Medium.com

There are various websites. Medium is one of my go-to platforms for marketing content. You can use email marketing, continuously update your website with new information, create free online courses and deliver valuable content to your audience.

Using Paid Traffic Methods

Paying for ads and other initiatives is another method to drive traffic to your website or blog, and often a great method of getting traffic in the short-term whilst SEO efforts take hold, as it can take a few months. This is a great two-fold strategy that will leave your business in a nice position and not reliant on any specific traffic methods be it from SEO, PPC or third parties.

1. Purchase Your Adverts via Facebook

Do you want to get access to one of the most visited websites? Facebook is one of the social media sites that has an enormous amount of traffic. All you need to do is create an enticing offer and convert the traffic into sales by paying for ads.

2. Use Websites Like Outbrain or Taboola

There are websites such as Taboola and Outbrain that can promote your website. You can track individuals who use your platform as long as you have created some sales funnels and set them up. This will enable you to promote your content for a certain fee. Make sure you have done your due diligence before throwing all the eggs in this basket!

3. Leverage Google Retargeting Ads

You need to leverage Google Ads that focus on people who have visited your website and left without purchasing anything. This will involve using converted pixels for purchases. To reach people who have already been on your website, you need to effectively market to them using Google’s search engine after they have left.

4. Instagram Ads

This is an option you can use with Instagram, and this includes placing your ads on the social media network. This exciting method can help bring revenue with a highly-targeted approach in reaching potential clients.

5. Participate in Paid Giveaways

By partnering with firms that have a large digital and physical footprint, you can drive a tremendous amount of traffic to your website as people will want to know more about you. If you can get something for a giveaway, find a potential local or regional company that can partner with you in that initiative.

6. Engage in Influencer Marketing

Finally, we know that the new streets are now digital, influencer marketing is one great way to transmit your message across the globe. You can get attention by leveraging influencers on social media platforms, but this may not come on a silver plate, but it could be a big win.
